Thailand is the hub of cruising in Southeast Asia – and Phuket is the hub of cruising in Thailand
Phuket remains the principal starting point for luxury yacht charter trips to a varied range of destinations, from beach hopping on the island to trips as far south as the Malaysia border or island groups far out in the Andaman Sea.Destinations have been divided into three, with the first section focusing on Phuket itself, the nearby Racha Islands and the world-famous Phi Phi Islands, located south and east of Phuket’s south coast respectively. The second section focuses on the iconic Phang Nga Bay northeast of Phuket as well as the Krabi islands and Koh Lanta, located close to the Krabi coastline on the mainland. The third section is dedicated to more remote destinations, such as Koh Lipe to the south, by the Malaysia border, and the Similan and Surin Islands to the northwest, all three about 60-65km from the mainland.Ask Yacht Sourcing for the best time to visit each destination as not all areas can be visited in the monsoon season (May-October).
Phuket, Racha Islands, Phi Phi Islands
Enjoy a day beach hopping along Phuket’s west coast, go fishing and snorkelling in the Racha Islands to the south, or take a trip to the world-famous Phi Phi Islands, setting for The Beach film starring Leonard DiCaprio.
To the northeast of Phuket, Phang Nga Bay is a cruising wonderland, filled with spectacular, vertical rock formations containing hidden lagoons, while the Krabi Islands and Koh Lanta to the south offer similarly beautiful scenery and water but with fewer visitors.
More remote destinations from Phuket include Koh Lipe, one of 51 islands in Tarutao National Park in the very south of Thailand, close to Malaysia. To the northwest of Phuket, there are the Similan Islands and, further north, the Surin Islands, both offering spectacular diving including shipwrecks.
